The immigration section of the civil court of Rome has suspended the validation of the detention in the Albanian CPR of Gjader of 7 migrants, citizens from Egypt and Bangladesh, already transferred to Albania.
In light of the new “Safe Countries” decree launched by the Government, the judges ask the European Court of Justice for an opinion. With the suspension of the judges’ decision, once the deadlines for the validation of detention have expired, the migrants will be able to be brought back to Italy. An eighth migrant, also an asylum seeker and found to be vulnerable, had already been ordered to return to Italy.
Last October 18, the judges of the specialized immigration section of the Rome court had not validated the detentions issued by the Rome police headquarters for the first migrants who had been brought into the detention center for the repatriation of Gjader. Order which was then challenged by the Interior Ministry in Cassation.
