“They send me the music, I select it. I take twenty of them and everyone will perform two songs.” The next Open Mic evening organized by the producer Sixxo takes place Saturday January 25 at the restaurant The Gucci, in front of UTC. The free event takes place from 8:30 p.m. to midnight, at 29 rue du Port à Bateaux. The goal is to discover musical talents : song, rap, slam, piano voice… No restrictions.
Kevin Maupin, aka Sixxo, is organizing this evening through his association Vibes by night. He is himself a student at the Ecole supérieure de commerce (ESC) in Compiègne. “I’m finishing my Masters,” he says. I have to put together a business plan. As much as it’s in this environment that fascinates me.”
He has already organized various events: cabaret, music festival, stand-up… The last stand-up evening was very recently, on Saturday January 18. “I brought in five comedians, from Roubaix and Paris,” recalls the organizer.
Sixxo, from the BDE of the Compiègne business school
For this Open Mic evening (pronounced “open Mike”), two of the artists in demonstration will participate in a broadcast on On Air radio, from 10 p.m. to midnight. “The timing will be tight, but they will come first,” says Sixxo.
The first evenings of this kind in Compiègne took place in another restaurant, indicates the member of the student office (BDE) of the ESC. “It was the public who, with their applause, applauded their favorite artist,” describes Sixxo.
He created a studio to record artists
In parallel with its evenings, Sixxo opened the Vibes studio, at 1 rue Soeur Thérèse Massin in Compiègne. “This is where we record Open Mic artists,” explains the producer manager. He would like to organize a music festival in Tigre, “to promote all genres”.
In the meantime, he kept an appointment with the mayor of Compiègne. An interview at the end of which Philippe Marini gave his agreement for the Sixxo artists to perform there, on the day of the Music Festival.
