This Monday morning, January 6, was the back to school. A somewhat special return to Alphonse-Daudet schoolin the Argentinian district of Beauvais. This school had suffered a real destruction at the very beginning of the holidays. Thanks to the mobilization of the town hall services, everything was able to return to order so that the start of the school year goes well. But the question of security in this school, already affected by damage, raises questions.
Parents of students were able to speak with Mayor Franck Pia and a delegation of elected officials from the majority this Monday morning. Academy rector Pierre Moya was also present. Just like the departmental delegates of National Education Jean-Pierre Lefebvre and Serge Rivault who say “scandalized and more than moved by what happened. It is intolerable that a school is being degraded.»
More video surveillance?
But, since all the damage has been repaired, the first concern this Monday morning was that of the safety of the children. “We stress, we wonder how they got home, why the alarm didn’t go off», testifies a mother. She and several other parents are demanding an expansion of video surveillance to the Perrault school annex, located on the side in the same building.
Claims that Franck Pia has heard well. “We see what we can do to improve video protectionhe declared this Monday. They should be installed on the side of the Perrault annex. (…) We have put the school back in order, now we are going to deal with educational life and security to see how we can secure the school.» He is not against the installation of new cameras but points out that the new Samuel-Paty school should see the light of day by 2026. Implied, there is no need to invest in security on the long term at the Daudet school. A temporary solution might be enough.
Legal proceedings continue
Immediately after the damage, Franck Pia called on the new Minister of Justice, Gérald Darmanin, asking him to toughen the sanctions against those responsible for this type of event. The mayor said he had no news on the investigation this Monday. The identification of the thugs continues.
The priority for the town hall was to restore the school to good condition before the start of the school year. What was done. While awaiting possible compensation from the courts, this damage cost the community around €10,000. A figure that could still move a little. “There are a few tablets that we did not have in stock and there may be feedback from teachers about something that is missing», explains Anne-Françoise Lebreton, assistant in charge of educational life and schools in Beauvais.
