In the early 2000s, Lorie sang that at age 20, “nothing is impossible“. Born almost at the same time as the release of this song, Amélie Leroy and Mathieu Zabel understood it well. At 20 and 21 years old respectively, the young couple has just resumed bakery of Berthecourt (Oise)a small town of just over 1,500 inhabitants located south of Beauvais.
Both from Oise – she from Senlis, he from Clermont – Amélie and Mathieu reopened the town’s bakery September 28 last. “We had visited another one in Nointel before, and upon meeting the miller he advised us to visit another shopsays Mathieu. We did it, and we fell in love with it. It’s bigger, cleaner.»
Already a great experience for both
Even though they are young, Amélie and Mathieu are not at their first job. In fact, Mathieu was an apprentice for four years in a bakery and pastry shop in Laigneville, then a baker’s worker for two years in Saint-Maximin. “I wanted to do a manual jobbook Mathieu. I did my third year internship in Laigneville, I liked it, so I did my apprenticeship there. I couldn’t see myself doing anything else.” Amélie, for her part, was a sales employee in mass distribution. “I have always been used to contact with customersshe smiled. I’m still learning as I go.»
Because being your own boss is different from being an employee. But this gap did not frighten the two young people who threw themselves headlong into this adventure. “At first it was a little stressful, but now it’s okay», concedes Mathieu, who employs two saleswomen, another baker and an apprentice.
Develop this case first
So far, the first two months have been okay according to them. In addition to bread, homemade pastries and snacks (sandwiches, slices of pizza, croque-monsieur, etc.), Amélie and Mathieu organize themed weekends or raffles to build customer loyalty. “We are starting to recover customers who no longer camesmiles the couple who must juggle this new professional life and the life of young parents. It’s nice.»
