Currently fourteenth in the general ranking of the Vendée Globe (solo sailing race around the world without stopover or assistance), the skipper fromOise Romain Attanasio broke his hook. But nothing to stop him from continuing his journey.
A few hours of repair
Saturday December 28, Romain Attanasio announced on his social networks that he had broken his hook. It is a puller responsible for blocking the carriage which hoists the sails in the mast. To repair it, he had to lower his sails and spend several hours around his cart to completely replace it.
The fact remains that from now on, for each sail change, he is forced to go to the foot of the mast to manipulate this trolley, whereas until now he could do it from the cabin of his boat. “It’s not going to be simple,” says the sailor.
If this breakage should not prevent him from completing the race, it should however make his task more complicated.
He is advancing towards Cape Horn
The navigator is currently between Point Nemo (the farthest point from the mainland, sailors are also accustomed to saying that the men closest to them when they are at Point Nemo are the astronauts of the international space station) and Cape Horn.
The sailing conditions are not the most optimal. The southern seas are rather rough and sailors face strong winds. The situation should improve when the skippers return to the Atlantic Ocean.
Attanasio 14th in the general classification
Aboard his Fortinet – Best Western imoca, Romain Attanasio is currently in 14th position in the general classification, just behind sailor Samantha Davies (Initiatives Cœur) who is none other than the mother of his son Ruben.
At the head of the race, there are still Yoann Richomme (Paprec Arkéa) and Charlie Dalin (Macif Santé Prévoyance). The gap between the two men is currently only 3.67 nautical miles, or approximately 6 kilometers.
