“Some retirees have asked for taxes to be lowered. They found that the package is less supplied this year.” The remark heard during the municipal council of Saint-Just-en-Chaussée, Friday November 29, may make you smile. But an elected official from the town heard it clearly during the distribution on Tuesday, November 26. Then, she brought it back at the end, during miscellaneous questions.
Afterwards, by the admission of the elected officials in charge of traditional distribution, it is possible that the small parcel intended for seniors suffered from “shrinkflation”. However, in the photos provided by the municipality, this package looked complete: various canned goods, sweets and a bottle of Crèmement.
“The cost of food has increased”
The municipality distributed 1,000 of these packages. This, for a cost of thirty euros per unit. In the game of differences from one year to the next, the bottle of Crément replaces the bottle of wine offered free of charge.
“We must remember that the cost of food has increased in recent years,” says another elected official from Saint-Just-en-Chaussée. As for the Mayor Bernard Dubouilthis recalls the efforts made by the municipality. “We are making sure not to increase taxes,” he insists.
The meal remains
The elected official adds: “Several neighboring municipalities have chosen to no longer present packages to seniors. We still manage to budget them. But it’s difficult. We also made sure not to increase the school canteen.”
And for those who don’t want to collect a package, there was always the elders’ meal. 140 people participated on Sunday December 1st.
