In an ambitious approach to making the urban environment more pleasant, the city of Nieppe is embarking on an experimental phase of greening public spaces. If you are a resident passionate about nature and want to help beautify your city, this is the perfect opportunity for you. The municipality invites volunteers to obtain a greening permit, an innovative project that could transform our daily lives in the city.
This initiative aims to encourage the flourishing of nature while strengthening biodiversity. It also allows residents to appropriate public space in a respectful manner, thus creating a real social bond through shared experiences. Because a city only belongs to its inhabitants, each citizen has the opportunity to beautify and improve their living environment.
But the benefits of this project don’t stop there. In addition to encouraging the establishment of vegetation, this approach paves the way for pleasant paths and the promotion of gentle travel. It also plays a key role in adapting to climate change and combating heat islands, thus making the city more pleasant to live in, whatever the seasons.
Participants will be able to green different public spaces: facades, tree bases, sidewalks, etc. While respecting safety and traffic criteria. For example, for developments on sidewalks, a clear passage of 1.40 m for pedestrians must be maintained, and no planting must obstruct the height of 1.40 m above the ground. Projects must be designed to respect the integrity of existing plants, in particular by preserving a space of 30 cm around tree trunks.
The choice of plants will be crucial. We will favor species such as small shrubs, perennials, or even annual or biennial plants. Invasive, allergenic or toxic plants will be excluded, thus guaranteeing a secure and harmonious environment for everyone.
Each participant will be responsible for the maintenance of their installation. Maintaining the beauty and health of the plantations will be his responsibility, as will any possible repair of material or bodily damage that may result from the installation of the devices.
The city of Nieppe has therefore launched a call for applications for this pilot project. Approximately fifteen households are being sought to participate. If you are interested, you must submit your greening permit application and your project to the town hall before February 28, 2025.
The projects will be studied in March by a working group, which will carry out a site visit to assess technical feasibility (roads, security, etc.). An appointment will then be made with each candidate, and technical advice may be requested from municipal services to refine the choice of species. If the project is approved, a temporary authorization to occupy the public domain will be issued, and you can begin to revegetate your space with complete peace of mind.
