The threat of a class closure looms over thePompidou nursery schoolhas Gouvieux. “The elimination of this class could have harmful consequences, both for the students and for the future of the school,” explains theparents association. Among the concerns expressed: a transfer of students to private establishments, an increase in numbers in the remaining classes, a drop in educational numbers or even a loss of social ties.
“Schools are the heart and life of our commune,” says Romain, from the parents’ association, in a leaflet distributed this Sunday, January 12 at the Gouvieux market. If they become weakened, the entire social fabric will suffer.” For Christelle, a parent, “school is not only a place of learning, it is a space of meeting and development for our children”.
The resistance is organized
As is often the case when faced with the possibility of class closure, resistance is organized. Leaflets were distributed on the Sunday market, publications were posted on social networks, a meeting with the mayor took place… Parents of students invite families wishing to enroll their children in school to come forward as soon as possible as mayor. This is because time is running out, with National Education having to make its decision next February. According to the parents’ association, “at least fifteen new registrations are necessary to prevent the class in question from closing next September.”
Every registration counts
The parents of the students insist. “If you know of families with children who are likely to join school in September (with or without exemption), from the small to the large section, do not hesitate to contact us quickly,” they say. We are well aware that this deadline is short. But every registration counts and could make the difference.”
Located behind the town hall of Gouvieux, the Pompidou school is an integral part of the town center. “This establishment is essential to the life of the city,” believe the parents of the students who are convinced that if the closure of the planned class were to materialize, this could only lead to “the departure of a teacher and, certainly , of an Atsem.”
