A little more than two weeks after the start of the new year, the Oise department already has two deaths on its roads. The first, a 39-year-old man, died a few days after an accident which took place on January 3 on the RN31 near Bresles. The second, a 30-year-old motorcyclist, died this Thursday, January 16 on the D1016 near Rantigny. The opportunity to look at the accident figures in the Oise.
Speed, leading cause of death
In 2024, the prefecture has identified 35 dead on the roads of the department. Like last year, speed is the leading cause of death, with eight deaths. Next come drugs and lane changes with three deaths, then discomfort, dangerous overtaking, inattention and refusal of priority with two deaths, alcohol and wrong-way traffic for one death. Five causes are undetermined, and three fall into an “other” category.
A little fewer deaths than in 2023
35 deaths is a little less than in 2023 when 39 people had lost their lives on the roads of the Oise. But it is still more than 2021 (31 deaths) and 2022 (30 deaths).
In total, 449 accidents took place in 2024 (compared to 515 in 2023), and 619 people were injured (compared to 690 in 2023). Figures in decline, but which remain very significant. The months of March And October 2024 were the deadliest of the year, with five deaths. The month of October has the highest number of accidents (52) and injuries (69).
Note that this assessment of accidents in the Oise is not definitive. Indeed, with regard to those killed, people who died immediately or up to thirty days after the accident are counted. A victim injured in December 2024 who succumbs to his injuries in January 2025 could increase the number of deaths in 2024. The final toll should be established at the end of January/beginning of February.
