“It’s an initiative started in December and renewed for three months” comments Claudine Gréhan, elected trade delegate. On Saturday morning, the Compiègne city center market will extend over the rue Saint-Nicolas. More precisely on the pedestrian area, not far from the tobacco bar Balto.
“This makes it possible to install specialists in personal or household equipment, and florists,” indicates Claudine Gréhan. She proposed this idea to Mayor Philippe Marini, who validated it. “To diversify and enrich the commercial offering of our market,” he comments.
Manager of the Esprit Fleurs boutique, would like to revive the tradition of the flower market in Compiègne. “Historically, Town Hall Square was the location of florists,” she explains. Now, this square hosts many events. So much so that there was an initial modification of the market to accommodate these traders.” For the moment, there is a florist, but the elected official hopes that this modification will arouse desires.
This also responds to the installation of KFC
The extension of the Saturday market to rue Saint-Nicolas meets the needs of the future KFC. The fast food brand will soon open in the Marché-aux-Herbes gallery. “The owners will create an entrance at the corner of rue de la Corne-du-cerf and rue des Trois-Barbeaux,” explains Claudine Gréhan. We had to find a solution.”
“The city of Compiègne is proud of its markets, true places of life and conviviality,” considers Mayor Philippe Marini. Every week, these markets offer all residents the opportunity to stroll and discover quality local products. And to share a warm moment with family or friends.”
