“It’s not me who is upside down, it’s the world that says too much” indicates Gérard, a member of L’Arche. This phrase adorns one of the walls of the shop The Upside Down, at 14 rue de l’Etoile in Compiègne. This store, open for a week, offers artisanal products from members of theESAT of Trosly-Breuilwhich depends on the Ark.
Pottery, ceramics, mosaic… are the specialties of the artisans of the ESAT of Trosly-Breuil, fifteen kilometers from the city center of Compiègne. “This store is a showcase for L’Arche products,” says Sandra Hermann, store manager. This is an opportunity for Compiégnois to discover the talent and professionalism of people with disabilities.” The “crafts” sector of Trosly Breuil has twenty workers.
Crafts and local products from ESAT dependent on the Arche
ESAT (work support establishment and service) supports people with disabilities. Several establishments depend on the Arche. The Compiègne store also offers products from these other ESATs. For example, Anjou wine called L’Anjoué, but also cognac, pineau and candles, or the sewing work of the ESAT in Saint-Rémy-lès-Chevreuse…
“At the store, you can see our craftsmen working in demonstrations,” continues manager Sandra Hermann. And from next year, we will offer mosaic and ceramic workshops, led by our people with disabilities.” Saturday November 30, two artisans will come and show their mosaic talent.
Eight hosts take turns to ensure the operation of the store, open from Wednesday to Saturday. “Beyond the sale of products, this store is an opportunity to encourage meetings between members of the Arche and the public,” believes the manager. It is a solidarity trade which shows that this inclusion is possible. We also aim to interact with local businesses.”
