2024 bows out to 2025 and with the new year, INSEE enumerators will travel through part of the mainly rural municipalities in the department. There are two categories which are treated differently.
Municipalities with less than 10,000 inhabitants, there will be 150 for this 2025 census operation, are recorded every 5 years, while the largest are recorded annually at 8% of addresses.

With more than 10,000 inhabitants, 8 addresses are affected in the municipalities of Château-Thierry, Chauny, Laon, Saint-Quentin, Soissons, Tergnier and finally Villers-Cotterêts.
The objective of the census is the publication of figures for municipal populations and populations counted separately. The total population of a municipality is the addition of these two populations. The census also serves, among other things, to determine State allocations, the type of municipal elections, by list or individual candidacies, and the number of elected members of Community Councils.
