It is not the heavy rains and storms which are the cause of impassable streets this Saturday, November 23 in Creil, but quite simply the rupture of a drinking water pipe. It was not just any pipe, since it concerned a sharing connection which has a large diameter of three hundred millimeters.
A veritable torrent rushed down Rue de la République, but did not have too much impact on businesses, apart from certain cellars.
For motorists and walkers, everyone is shocked by this image of a city center invaded by water.
The water formed a veritable torrent seeking evacuation from all sides.
Although Suez technical teams intervened very quickly, thousands of liters of water, tens of tons, were spilled onto the streets of the city. It is 12:30 p.m. when Rue de la République in Creil has no choice but to be closed to traffic.
“Rue de la République, between rue Aristide Briand and rue Jules Michelet, is currently closed due to a ruptured water pipe.
Our teams, in collaboration with Suez, are mobilized to resolve this situation as quickly as possible and restore traffic in complete safety,” assured Suez services.
At town hall, a crisis meeting is of course being organized. And even if we want to be reassuring, we will have to point out the responsibilities when they are determined.
This is because, in fact, Rue de la République was completely redone a few months ago and it was right there that a 300 mm pipe gave way. No luck.
“We have managed this crisis as necessary, but we understand that this causes serious inconvenience for residents. Some will not have water immediately, even though we know that the vast majority of homes are once again connected to running water,” explains Sophie Lehner, first deputy on site, accompanied by Jean-Claude Villemain, mayor. of Creil.
The city lost a large part of the water reserve from the water tower located on the heights of the city.
Suez services must support water distribution to users who will not yet be connected in the coming hours.
It remains to be known the origin and cause of the leak from this 300 mm diameter pipe.
“For the moment, we do not know the real cause of this pipe rupture. Further analyzes will make it possible to establish responsibilities and the real cause of this event,” continues Sophie Lehner.
For users, the water evacuation networks were largely able to absorb the thousands of liters of water that spilled. The lowest point of Rue de la République being located at the crossroads overlooking the Faïencerie, the water entered several private cellars. The rapid intervention of the firefighters, with powerful motor pumps and a command post, took place at the foot of the Faïencerie. Drones came into action and made it possible to provide an update on the situation in real time. They helped to quickly manage an episode that was significant in Creilloise life.
