“I sent a letter from resignation to the Prefect who has two months to make his decision,” declares Michel Arnould. THE mayor of Verberie just made this surprising announcement less than an hour ago on its Facebook page.
“A carefully considered choice, remained completely confidential, taken ten months ago so that the rest can be prepared calmly,” he writes.
“There was no question of me serving a third term,” he adds. He wants a team with a new mayor to propose and execute the municipality’s 2025 budget. Elected in 2014, re-elected in 2020, the mayor (SE) indicates that his successor is “known to all of you (the residents)”. Without giving his name, however. “He will be able to put himself forward for your vote in the 2026 municipal elections”, in “the interest of Verberie”.
“The collapse of France is unbearable to me”
On the reasons for this surprising departure, he explains wanting to “take some distance in order to find more freedom and time for my family, to think and perhaps act in another way”. “The collapse that France has been experiencing for several years in almost all areas is unbearable to me,” adds this retired civil servant.
He will continue to serve on the municipal council until 2026. He does not plan to officially return to this resignation which takes everyone by surprise. “If the prefect does not acknowledge my resignation before,” he will address “one last time to you, as mayor.” It will be at the wishes of the commune on January 9 at 7 p.m. at Espace Dagobert.
