THE Sunday newspaper (JDD) has just published her Top 500 cities where life is good. The north of France is not very well represented. But Beauvais is the first city in the Hauts-de-France region. Which delights the local executive. The city prefecture of the Oise rose to 181st place in the ranking behind Rosny-sous-Bois (Seine-Saint-Denis) and ahead of Longjumeau (Essonne).
In this ranking, Lille only arrived in 195th place. In the region then comes Saint-Quentin, in Aisne, in 218th place. Then Villeneuve-d’Ascq (North) in 288th place. Valenciennes in 313rd position. Tourcoing in 390th place. Still in this Compiègne ranking is in 440th place. Not far ahead of Creil in 463rd place. We also find Boulogne-sur-Mer and Calais in the list.
A statistical classification
According to the newspaper this “Top 500 highlights cities offering the best quality of life in France. Become a reference, this list is based on key criteria: environment, security, infrastructure and services». “”Sports, leisure, education, security, living environment, solidarity, health or even real estate attractiveness, this classification is based on official sources figures, to best stick to the reality of each municipality, with neutrality“Adds the mayor of Beauvais Franck Pia.
Beyond the figures, opinions diverge on this ranking and the cities where life is good. And everyone will of course have their own idea. It is the third consecutive time that Beauvais is the best classified city in the region by the JDD. But it comes back year after year. It was 113rd in 2022, 161st in 2023 and 180th in 2024.
Moreover, another classification which is also based on statistical data does not place at all beautiful in mind in the department. For a dream town, which is interested in particular in small towns, to live happy, you have to live in the south of the Oise.
