Patrick Huiez was one of them. He participated in parallel in the organization of tests like the slalom of Compiègne. A race disputed originally in the avenues before joining an improvised circuit in the northern industrial zone. The age came, no more question of aligning yourself in the list of auto competition. “The race, as an organizer or participant, has become expensive and too complicated,” admits the pilot. But passion remains intact, to the point that it created the Club Ecurie des Plaines d’Estrées.
Find the atmosphere of yesterday’s competitions
“We wanted to find the conviviality of rally, reconnecting with this atmosphere,” explains Patrick. Besides, I knew most club members when I was running. But at the time, they were kids like little Philippe. At 16, he had to obtain a derogation from his parents to ensure my assistance in the race. ”
The monthly meetings of the Ecurie des Plaines d’Estrées are registered in the agendas, with reminders on the Internet, to bring together a maximum of participants from 10 am driving their mounts over fifteen years of age. “They mostly come from the Compiegnois but also from the Paris region and from Normandy,” notes Patrick Huiez.
The atmosphere is more than Micale. “Hi Are you fine?” Have you solved your carburetor problem? And the little announcement you saw for the seats of your convertible is good? ” If technical and mechanical are at the center of the exchanges, the anecdotes and stories of the last walks by old car remain at the top of the discussions.
The love of “compete”
At Eric came behind the wheel of his Simca Chrysler Horizon 1978. Stickers and competition numbers recall that this car recently participated in the Aisne Classic rally. “In 2022, I ran with this car Le Monte Carlo Historique, where the top of the basket is aligned. I equipped it with additional headlights and electronic boxes that allow the co -pilot to fulfill its role. ”
Accustomed to historic regularity rallies or cartographic outings, the pilot is preparing a future participation in the Aumale rally. A renowned test for which he embarked on the essential hunt for sponsors.
This taste for self -sport comes from his childhood. “My father took me every year in June at 12 hours of Reims on the beggar circuit. In 1971, I even came with him at the 24 Hours of Le Mans. ”
More “sage”, a Renault 30, luxurious high -end of the brand is there. At its side, park a rare Volkswagen Golf Country 4 x 4 and a nice caravel, the small renault convertible presented by a young actress named Brigitte Bardot.
Motorcycles are also part
The gathering of Estrées Saint-Denis also welcomes collectors of old motorcycles. A Peugeot in the thirties competes with beauty with a renee-gillet equipped with a sidecar, both watched by a mythical BMW.
“We participate in the Tour de France of the old motorcycles of the Gavap club”, explains Denis Vigreux, “authentic” biker who also owns a dollar 350 and a lambretta LD. Another enthusiast came to the handlebars of his BSA in 1952. He too made the Tour de France of the old ones twice at the controls of his motorcycle animated by an impressive 600 cm monocylor3. “I bought it in a wreckage state. The next meeting takes place on Sunday March 2 at 10 a.m., town hall place. Patrick Huiez, 75, admits that the weight of the years is felt. “I would like young people to take over but it cannot be jostled.”
