“If I am elected, I will complete the mandate.” Philippe Marini, LR mayor of Compiègnecandidate for municipal 2026declares that in the event of victory, he will exercise “his responsibilities throughout the mandate”, which brings him to 2032. And which would make a total of 45 years of exercise.
He made this declaration at the Saint-Nicolas rooms, Saturday January 11, for his wish ceremonyin front of an audience committed to his cause. “If people are willing to trust me again, if I am re-elected, I will continue to exercise the responsibilities throughout the mandate.” There is no question for Philippe Marini of “turning on his heels” or “transmitting to who knows who” during his mandate.
Mayor since 1987, Philippe Marini officially brushes aside the hypothesis envisaged by observers, of a handover to the UDI Daniel Leca, his opponent at Compiègne town hall. Since January 2024 and a common wish ceremony, then an abstention instead of a vote against the majority’s budget, followed by Philippe Marini’s support for Daniel Leca in the legislative elections, rumors of a rapprochement were rife. To the point that the integration of Daniel Leca into Philippe Marini’s future list would not have surprised many people.
This won’t happen. Moreover, Daniel Leca was not what Philippe Marini wanted. “Good for him,” comments Daniel Leca about this announcement. But that doesn’t change anything about me. I am a candidate to become mayor of Compiègne. I will say it clearly again at my vows ceremony on Saturday January 25.”
A list Forward Compiègne
“Of course, time does its work,” continues Philippe Marini, from the stage of the Saint-Nicolas rooms. But if I am re-elected, I will serve for the entire mandate.” The elected official who will celebrate his 74th birthday on January 28 intends to “lead a broad and representative list of all of Compiègne”. This list should be called En Avant Compiègne.
In the front row, Eric de Valroger, Compiègne security deputy, listens attentively to Philippe Marini. “I remain in favor of an alliance between Philippe Marini and Daniel Leca,” he reacted a little later. We must prepare for the future.”
“My availability is total,” insists Philippe Marini. I will work in trust with those who share my vision of the future of Compiègne. A medium-sized city needs unity to achieve things, so that everyone feels respected…”
Philippe Marini recalls the political meetings initiated at the end of the year. The themes “Compiègne land of memory”, and “living together” have already been discussed. As during his political return in September, Philippe Marini brings on stage some of the hosts of the upcoming evenings. People who will perhaps be on the outgoing mayor’s list.
Presentation of possible future running mates
An upcoming evening on regional planning will soon take place, hosted by elected official Benjamin Oury, Philippe Marillaud, president of the Pompadour Tennis club and business manager, and Charles Dhilly, 32 years old, property dealer and boss of a construction company in Compiègne. “I want to help develop Compiègne from within,” he says.
There will be a meeting on the environment, co-led by deputy Arielle Diot and Eugénie Le Querré, an elected official with an environmentalist streak “who says what she thinks”, appreciates Philippe Marini. “The two-way cycles don’t work that badly,” Philippe Marini slips in passing. We have to know how to adapt to the place of gentle traffic, without applying repression against motorists, as in Paris.”
A Muscovite in Compiègne
Another meeting will take place on the “radiant culture of Compiègne”, hosted by elected official Justyna Depierre, Daria Brient and Nicolas Collin. Muscovite Daria Brient opened the Galerie de l’Est in Compiègne seven years ago. “We work with artists without limits,” she says. Culture is for everyone.” She discovered Compiègne “by chance”. “My husband worked at FM logistic,” she explains. We were seduced by the photos. And by the ice hockey club.”
Philippe Marini presents Nicolas Collin as a “cultural maverick”. The man is a visual painter specializing in communication actions.
A final meeting will address the theme “My daily life in Compiègne. The first assistant Sophie Schwarz, the lawyer Nicolas Richez and Bernard Delarue, president of the Compiégnois Olympic Ring boxing club, will be the hosts. “I was not born in Compiègne, but I was told that it was one of the most beautiful cities in France,” declares the boxer, who advocates the practice of sport for all generations.
The mayor of Venette applauded after his custody
Beyond these meetings which will make it possible to develop a program, Philippe Marini recalls that a financing plan (multi-annual investment program) commits the Agglo de Compiègne which he chairs until 2030. “Although the creation of a community of communes dates back to 1970, the Compiègne Agglomeration as we know it was born in 2004,” he says. That’s twenty years.”
The Agglomerate’s wishes ceremony takes place Friday January 17 in Venette. The president addresses Mayor Romuald Seels, who was taken into police custody after an altercation against a young person who was rodeoing. “The mayor of Venette strives to apply zero tolerance, which can lead to somewhat painful episodes,” notes Philippe Marini. The person concerned is warmly applauded.
The mayor recalls that he discussed with Bruno Retailleau, Minister of the Interior, about motorcycle rodeos. “It is time to provide the means to municipal police officers,” he believes. All city mayors, whatever their political family, reason the same way.”
The mayor of Compiègne asked for authorization to use drones and invisible paint against motorcycle rodeos, “like the English do in the Midlands”. “Compiègne could be a pioneer in this area,” he hopes.
Reopening of the Victoire meeting center in May
Philippe Marini discusses current projects. For the mayor, it is a question of urban renovation, rehabilitation of facilities built in the 1970s and 1980s. The reopening of the Victoire Meeting Center in May. “Real soundproofing will allow the evenings to be extended a little longer, with real kitchens for more conviviality.”
The mayor speaks of the reconstruction of the Faroux school, “with a second production kitchen, after that of Royallieu, and before the two others which will make it possible to close the canteen program”.
The upcoming mandate will be that of the rehabilitation of the center of Puy du Roy, occupied by numerous associations. The skating rink will undergo a 16 million euro renovation and will come under the control of the Agglo de Compiègne. The same sum will finance the widening of the hopper (tunnel) under the railway to better integrate the new Prairie district, on the Margny and Venette side. “The goal is to create unity, a balance between the right bank (Margny side) and the left bank (Compiègne side)” indicates the mayor.
