This is a result that shows the constancy of the sailor. On the occasion of his first participation in the Vendée Globe in 2017, he had finished 15th in the general classification. In 2020, he had already finished in 14th place. This is the first time that the navigator had equipped his foil boat, these drifts that save speed.
The mast of his boat had given him a hard time
The sailor almost never took the start of the race. In September 2024, he had dismissed. Romain Attanasio had to go around his sponsors to ask them to help him finance a new mat for his Imoca (60 -foot monohull, just over 18 meters long) Fortinet – Best Western. In parallel, he also launched a participatory kitty, which enabled him to bring together 174,000 euros.
But Romain Attanasio was able to count above all on the solidarity of the Skipper Malouin Maxime Sorel (V and B / Monbana / Mayenne) who offered to give him his spare mast, allowing him to compete in the Vendée Globe.
During this third round world tour, the mast of his boat will have decidedly gave him trouble. On December 28 on his social networks, he announced that he had broken his hook, this cart hung on the mast that hoist the sails. This breakage did not prevent the skipper from continuing his journey, with the same determination.
“A Edition rich in emotions and twists and turns”
During this new edition of the Vendée Globe, he also opened the arcade by falling on his boat, just before passing the Cape of Good Hope.
But if it is a memory that Romain Attanasio keeps for sure his third participation in this sailing race, it is this visio with his partner. The sailor discovered the sex of his unborn child. The sailor was already the father of a boy (whose mother is also a navigator, it is Samantha Davies).
“It’s an incredible adventure that ends, and my third round world tour!” After 83 days, 22 hours, 48 minutes and 18 seconds at sea aboard my Imoca Fortinet – Best Western, I finish in 14th place in this 10th edition rich in emotions and twists and turns, “said Romain Attanasio after spending the Arrival line.
He also suggested that he would do everything possible to be at the start of the 11th edition of the Vendée Globe in four years.
