We saw him a little more rarely at municipal events, but Hervé Roberti remained an elected official appreciated by all. The first deputy of the town of Nogent-sur-Oise passed away on the night of November 16 to 17.
He had a calming character and had a boundless passion for literature. Not an inauguration took place without him placing a piece of history relating to a name, a street, an event.
What characterized him best was undoubtedly loyalty. Loyalty also to his political family which he never renounced. The radical party represented for him real values which the first deputy would not have parted with for anything in the world.
A loyalty to his city also that he always knew how to defend during the debates of the Creil-Sud-Oise Agglomeration, since he was also a community councilor there.
So of course, there was the weight of years, but that in no way took away the determination of the first deputy to carry out his task as best as possible, while being as fair as possible. Besides, was it possible to get angry with Hervé Roberti? Quite honestly, we have never seen anyone truly angry with this exceptionally upright and clearly spoken man. Jean-François Dardenne, first magistrate of the 4th town of Oise, was not mistaken in choosing him as first deputy. This first deputy happened to have to replace his mayor at short notice in an inauguration speech. Those present will remember it forever, as the accuracy of the words was there, even in total improvisation.
The tributes do not take long. Although many knew of Hervé Roberti’s weakened health in recent times, they were however far from suspecting that the first deputy would bow out discreetly one night in November.
A tribute should be paid in the coming days by the municipal elected officials of Nogent-sur-Oise. The least of things for someone who got involved in politics with an objective, to serve their neighbor, to make themselves useful. Serve and not serve could have been his motto (editor’s note: it is already adopted by the Lions Club). Retired having had the chance to successfully complete a career as a civil service executive, he felt that he should not be remunerated for his mandate. He had in fact refused any remuneration. This data alone perfectly represents the commitment of this first deputy who will be far from being forgotten by the people of Nogent. For several years, he has also devoted himself to publishing children’s books. “I want to give the keys to young children so that they can discover literature in another way,” Hervé Roberti recently confided to our newspaper. He is a fascinating man who left like this.
