The socialist Bertrand Brassens reacts on the connections between the LR mayor of Compiègne Philippe Marini and the opponent UDI Daniel Leca. And on their prospects for a common list municipal 2026.
“During the 2020 municipal elections, the disagreements between the two lists were strong,” recalls Bertrand Brassens. Whether on the program, the management methods or the values… Everyone was able to see that on all these subjects, Daniel Leca gradually reduced the differences, except on a few technical details. As if Mr. Marini had changed… It is indeed difficult to be in the same right-wing majority, to want to collect electoral heritage and to stand out.”
For Bertrand Brassens, former general councilor and head of the left-wing list in 1995 in the municipal elections, it seems “unimaginable” that Daniel Leca would join Philippe Marini’s list. “The latter declared himself Ciottiste, that is to say in favor nationally and locally of maximum convergence between LR, party of Mr. Marini, and the RN. And Mr. Marini openly supported an RN candidate. A new deputy (Frédéric-Pierre Vos), to whom he is personally and politically very close, like a large part of the municipal council. Very few have not followed Mr. Marini in his support for the RN! I cannot imagine for a moment that Daniel Leca could ally himself with a mayor so close to the RN and fundamentalist Catholics, who welcomed Mr. Zemmour with open arms, who thus participates in the trivialization of Lepénist ideas in Compiègne. This is not possible.”
“I will not be a candidate but I will support the candidate of the left”
Bertrand Brassens was the candidate of the united left against Frédéric-Pierre Vos, in the Compiègne-Crépy constituency. Philippe Marini did not support it. He believes that if the negotiations between Daniel Leca and Philippe Marini have not been successful for the moment, it is more a question of quota of places than on a program or values.
He confirms that he will not hand over his “heating blues”, which in fact I have never left”, during these municipal elections. “The conditions for me to be a useful candidate for town hall are not met. I am not and will not be a candidate. The left has enough talent and its candidate will have my full support.”
He is now devoting himself to his only fight: “That the Compiégnois no longer has two far-right deputies. I want to continue to bring together all those who wish.”
