It is a sign that can save lives. Now installed at the four starter in Montmacq (Municipality of 1,100 inhabitants adjoining Thourotte) The small rectangle aims to put in the spirits the – still too taboo – subject of organ donation.
Nadine Delaplace and Marion Lauvergne are nurses at Compiègne hospital. In the emergency service and bodies of organs for one, and in resuscitation and levy of organs for the other. Sensitized about their professions, they decided to make it a personal battle horse by creating an association two years ago: organ ‘hope, domiciled in Rémy in the Oise. Nadine is the president. Marion the treasurer.
“Presumed consent”
Because organ donation is a subject too little discussed, because we do not know the legislation in force and the concept of alleged consent, they campaign “to raise awareness of the levy of organs, to speak of the gift, to explain the contours Legal, say why it is important to position yourself on the subject, ”begins Nadine Delaplace. Today, in France, in the absence of opposite education, everyone is considered a donor: “This is the principle of alleged consent: we are all donors”.
All donors except … “Unless we expressed his refusal by mail or online with the national refusal register,” says Marion. As a professional, this is the first thing that these nurses verify during a death.
The importance of making your choice know
“If the person is not registered, we must then get closer to the relatives of the deceased to find out if he had left instructions,” explain the two women. The interview always takes place in the hospital, from Visu, with relatives who have just learned terrible news. Too often families do not know. Or think they know that … all “because the subject has rarely been clearly mentioned”.
Result: with 36 % refusal, the Picardy region was one of the worst students in the matter in 2023 (the 2024 figures are not yet arrested).
Marion Lauvergne grew up in Montmacq. His parents still live there. With local ties, it was quite natural that she undertook to talk about the panel initiative to her ex-Voisin Thierry Merle, also a municipal councilor. With also advisor Hervé Le Droumaguet, known for his lifelong attachment to firefighters, they brought the subject before the municipal council and its mayor Rémy Cuelle. Mayor who did not hesitate for a second.
“The idea,” says Marion Lauvergne, is that people passing every day in front of the sign wonder “well, what is it?” Let them think about it, that they position themselves and talk about it with their loved ones, whether it is something present ”. And now devoid of any ambiguity.
An initiative that is
The initiative of the entrance panels of municipalities, first carried by the Collectif REGISTE + first led to two partnerships with cities of the Oise, Beauvais and Noaïlles, which became the ambassadors of organ donation. The Isarienne Organ ‘association Hope took over by contacting smaller municipalities: Rémy (the headquarters of Asso), Hémévillers, Rivevert and now Montmacq.
Little by little, the association hopes to “colonize” new villages, create new ambassadors. A target that seems to them to achieve for 2025? “We want to put it everywhere,” says Marion, but doing ten municipalities in the year would already be a great result “.
Organ donation in France in short
In France, organ donation is completely anonymous. Each sample is decided when it meets a prior need for transplantation, but the sampling teams do not know the name of the recipient. Donors can choose to give all their organs, except one or more in particular. The greatest reluctance generally concerns the donation of cornea (on the eye). The most taken organs are the kidneys and the liver. Consent can be expressed orally. It can also be written and entrusted to the person designated as “confidence”. The organ donor card has no legal value.
