This Thursday, November 28, the Directorate of Departmental National Education Services (DSDEN) of Oise decided to close temporarily Marcel Provost nursery school has Noyon. A decision “taken without consultation with the municipality”, denounces the city of Noyon in a press release published this Saturday. The City had to organize itself to maintain the continuity of public service, and guarantee the continuation of classes for the students of the nursery school on rue André Dumontois.
A humidity problem as a starting point
The case arose from an intervention by municipal technical services aimed at inspecting a humidity problem reported in the floor covering of the motor skills room, explains the city. This approach, carried out at the request of the school management and the parents of the students during the last school council, did not result in any significant work, assures the municipality. “Our agents only vacuumed up the vinyl floor glue which was between the tiles and the linoleum floor covering,” specifies the town hall.
Following this inspection, the DSDEN considered the safety of the students compromised, reports the municipality.
Decisions without consultation
In its press release, the town hall deplores the lack of communication from the State: “The National Education services decided, without consulting us, that the fact of having raised the floor covering posed a safety problem. We take note of this decision”, we indicate at the town hall.
The City of Noyon therefore had to reorganize the reception of students. As of yesterday, Friday, November 29, the toddlers and small sections were transferred to the premises of the Marcel Provost elementary school, while the medium and large sections were welcomed at the Saint-Barthélemy neighborhood center, also located rue André Dumontois
Experts commissioned to resolve doubts
Faced with the concerns raised by the DSDEN, the municipality announced that it had commissioned a study office in order to “remove the doubts raised by National Education relating to the security of the enclosure”. “The intervention and the results of the expertise will take a few days. Once the uncertainties are lifted, the children will return to their classrooms,” the city concludes in its press release.
