“Being panicked to the point of jumping out of a car is a tragedy, a cataclysm for the family…” For Loïc Abrial, the general attorney, the guilt ofAdama Coulibalyaccused ofkidnapping and of sequestration followed by deadis evident this Thursday, November 28.
The last day of this trial before the Oise Assize Court allowed the representative of the public prosecutor to detail his submissions in this case devoted to the circumstances of the death of Elijah Bougrer-Cinq-Val, on September 24, 2020, on theA1 motorwayup to Pontarmé.
“He is never responsible…”
The magistrate castigated the behavior of Adama Coulibay: “He had been convicted twice for aggravated domestic violence. At the time of the events, he was on probation and he was wearing an electronic bracelet. He did not follow the rules and he repeatedly told us that nothing was his fault. It’s never him, he’s never responsible. It will be a long road for him to finally accept having played a decisive role in this drama. No questioning about him. However, he is indeed the gravedigger of the happiness of the victim’s loved ones. I request against him a sentence of 15 years of criminal imprisonment accompanied by a security period of 7 and a half years as well as 10 years of socio-judicial monitoring…”
Defense lawyer calls for acquittal
Previously, the lawyers for the family of Elijah Bougrer-Cinq-Val, lawyers Jean-Laurent Panier and Maxime Serverian, took turns to express the trauma that accompanies the parents of this young man: “At 20 years old, he had everything for him, a girlfriend, a job. However, Adama Coulibaly places himself as a spectator even though he is the actor in this tragedy. He didn’t have a look, not a word to apologize…”
The defense lawyer, Maître Lauralane Bao, in her pleading, emphasizes that, according to her, her client’s only fault is having left his home: “Apart from that, you have nothing to demonstrate his guilt. I therefore logically ask you for his acquittal…”
After more than 4 hours of deliberation, Adama Coulibaly, found guilty of all the facts, received 12 years of criminal imprisonment and 5 years of socio-judicial monitoring with an injunction for treatment.
