The Tourcoing-Beaulieu link, a strategic axis for mobility in the Lille metropolis, is preparing to take a decisive step forward. Until January 31, 2025, residents are invited to participate in a public consultation on the construction of the fourth and final section, which will connect the Tourcoing ring road to the Pont des 44.
This project aims to streamline travel between Tourcoing and Wattrelos while meeting the objectives of the Metropolitan Mobility Plan. It provides for the creation of a new one-way road towards Tourcoing, the reorganization of rue de la Potente, and, ultimately, the replacement of the Pont des 44 with modern infrastructure adapted to all modes of transport.
The first three sections of the link have already reduced transit traffic in the heart of Wattrelos. However, certain challenges remain, notably the narrowness of the Pont des 44, which constitutes a real bottleneck, and the increase in traffic on routes such as rue de la Potente. These issues underline the urgency of completing this missing link to guarantee smooth and secure circulation.
This project is also part of a vision of sustainable mobility, with integration into the 2035 metropolitan cycle plan. It aims to become a priority route for cyclists, by connecting Tourcoing and Wattrelos thanks to secure and adapted paths. The recent developments carried out on boulevard Famille Saint-Ghislain and those planned for boulevard Jacques Bossut illustrate this commitment to soft mobility.
To inform and involve citizens, a consultation file is available at the town hall and on the website of the European Metropolis of Lille. A questionnaire has been distributed to residents of the area, and two public meetings are planned, the first of which has already been held on December 3. The restitution of the exchanges will take place in the first half of 2025.
This project goes beyond a simple road improvement. It aims to transform this connection into a real lever for more fluid, sustainable and inclusive mobility, by meeting the expectations of motorists, cyclists and pedestrians. Residents now have the opportunity to help shape the future of this vital link for the region.
