The aim is to authorize on an experimental basis the use of drones and of paintball by the municipal police of Compiègne. Sylvie Valente-Le Hir, senator of Oise, intervened with Bruno Retailleau, Minister of the InteriorWednesday November 20 at the Palais du Luxembourg. She supports the request of the mayor of Compiègne in order to strengthen the fight against motorized rodeos.
The use of paintball requires some explanation. This involves authorizing “one spray and one paintball of PMC coded paint”. “This innovative device makes it possible to mark troublemakers with a code undetectable to the naked eye but visible under UV lamp, thus facilitating prosecution, even in the event of a leak,” explains the mayor.
As for drones, which the municipal police have had since 2020, they cannot use them due to a decree from 2023. “An inconsistent situation in the face of security issues,” believes the mayor. These drones would allow us to locate caches and track offenders without exposing our agents. In order to intervene in a more targeted and secure manner.”
“The mayor’s police powers must adapt”
Close to the former president of the Les Républicains group in the Senate, Sylvie Valente-Le Hir reminded the Minister of Place Beauvau “the upsurge in new incivilities to which the mayor’s police powers must adapt.” We imagine that Bruno Retailleau acquiesced.
“The municipality alone cannot solve everything,” says Philippe Marini. A Mayor does not have a magic wand. This is why I am asking the State to strengthen our action. These experiments would take place at the request of the Public Prosecutor and under his control. These requests are crucial to effectively respond to the threat of motorized rodeos and restore the tranquility of our neighborhoods.”
