When Cécile Davidovics addresses his predecessor Michel Arnouldhe lets a tear escape. Wednesday January 8, Verberie municipal council elected his new mayor. A necessity since the resignation of Michel Arnould, announced before Christmas.
Until now first deputy, and interim mayor for a few days, Cécile Davidovics becomes the first female mayor of this town of 3,850 inhabitants. Anecdotal for the person concerned, elected thanks to the twenty ballots of the majority, against the six blank ballots of the opposition. “The most important thing is his qualities and his experience,” says Laurent Bommelaer, new 1st deputy.
“Continue what we started with Michel”
Once elected, Cécile Davidovics lets Michel Arnould give her the mayor’s sash. Before addressing the council to discuss the next two years, which will allow the team to carry out the projects of the mandate for which it was elected in 2020. “There are still many things to improve,” he said. she said, after the session.
She discusses the rehabilitation of the Oise quay, the “waterproofing” of the car parks, the creation of a promenade in the wetland, a residential project, the improvement of the Gare district, the residential leisure park project. . “The idea is to continue what we started with Michel,” she concludes.
Seven deputies
“You have the congratulations of Senator Olivier Paccaud, whom I had earlier on the phone,” confides Michel Arnould to his successor Cécile Davidovics.
Laurent Bommelaer, fourth deputy, speaks. “I am presenting a list of seven deputies,” he declares. Which does not change anything in the first part of the mandate. In order: Laurent Bommelaer (1st deputy), Annie Carpentier (2nd), Patrick Steffen (3rd), Martine Liétin (4th), René Brouillard (5th), Odile Arnould (6th) and Michel Arnould (7th). Same result: twenty ballots for the majority list and six blanks.
Michel Arnould remains deputy
Which does not make a big change, everyone retaining the delegation they had since 2020. This also applies to Cécile Davidovics, who will continue to take care of school affairs. The only notable change: Michel Arnould becomes deputy for town planning and monitoring the major projects he has initiated. Laurent Bommelaer thinks of his father “who would be proud to see me wear the scarf”. He has a thought for the town hall staff, “who must readjust for each change”.
The assembly elects eight delegated municipal councilors, as well as two “advanced” delegated municipal councilors. The allowances of the mayor and deputies are left as they were. “We do not take the maximum percentage, in order to allow delegated advisors to also receive compensation,” explains Cécile Davidovics.
At the end of the session, everyone meets to meet the wishes of the commune, scheduled for the next day (Thursday, January 9) at the Dagobert space.
Cécile Davidovics runs guest rooms
Originally from Paris, Cécile Davidovics arrived with her husband in Verberie in 2014, the year of the opening of her guest rooms and her entry into Michel Arnould’s team. “It’s this activity that brought me here,” says Cécile Davidovics. My husband Jean-Michel is from Pont-Sainte-Maxence. His father was a business manager. My husband took over this company called Pyromeral systems, now based in Barbery. When my husband took over the business, we bought our house to turn it into a bed and breakfast. Verberie is a perfect place, in a tourist location, ideally located off the highway.”
Cécile Davidovics will celebrate her 56th birthday on January 23. After studying law in Paris (she has a master’s degree in social law), she worked for ten years in this field in Paris.
As soon as she arrived in Verberie, she became involved in the associative world. Mother of two children aged 21 and 17, she still chairs the Apep (parents of students) of the Charles-de-Gaulle high school in Compiègne. She is also president of an Amap in Pont-Sainte-Maxence and treasurer of the Compiègne Tourist Office.
“We have maintained our cohesion since 2014,” says Michel Arnould
Michel Arnould said he would stay on the municipal council. He did not specify that he would remain deputy. He resigned to “distance himself and find more freedom”. Michel Arnould did not see himself serving a third term.
Ten years ago, he successfully ran for mayor of Verberie. “I had finished my military career,” he recalls. I wasn’t old enough. Continuing in a position of responsibility suited me well.”
“In 2014, the situation was not great”
His wife Odile (deputy like him in the current majority) had been Patrick Floury’s assistant. She resigned at the end of the 2001-2008 term. “Just before 2014, there was the gas plant affair,” continues Michel Arnould. The situation was not great. This whole group, still present ten years later, said “let’s go”. There was consensus that I should be the head of the list. We maintained our cohesion despite the renewal of half of the team in 2020.”
Originally from Wassignies, Michel Arnould has lived in Verberie since 1995. “I moved frequently due to my military career,” he explains. After my assignment to the Military Intelligence Directorate in Creil, my wife Odile found the house in which we still live.
