Saturday October 7, the commune of Jaux and the Association of Friends of Saint-Pierre Church de Jaux officially launched the donation campaign for this operation, carried out in partnership with the Heritage Foundation. “The fundraising objective is 50,000 euros,” continues Sidonie Muselet.
Chaired by Jean-Pierre Betegnie, the association of Friends of the Church of Jaux, founded a year ago, launched this patronage campaign. The recital of Duet Isaiah hosted this evening.
Foundations dating back to the 12th century
Built on the site of a sacred spring, the Saint Pierre de Jaux church is in the heart of the village. Its foundations date back to the 12th century. The Romanesque remains, such as the western gable and the bell tower, bear witness to its medieval origins.
Transformed in the 16th century due to the ravages of the Hundred Years’ War, the church was enriched with a vast flamboyant Gothic choir-hall, creating a striking contrast with the Romanesque nave. This coexistence of styles gives the building an architectural singularity.
Inside, the church houses a very rich movable heritage. The beam of glory, a centerpiece of the 16th century, is an exceptional testimony to sacred art. The altarpieces and paintings, from the former Carmel of Compiègne, enrich the decor and evoke the tumultuous history of the Carmelites of the region.
The Saint-Pierre church has been classified as a historic monument since April 1021.
A first tranche at 750,000 euros
The first phase of the work amounts to €749,947. The Region subsidizes €149,989, the State €290,796, and the town hall’s own funds amount to €189,162. There will then be two other optional tranches, of more than €350,000 each.
“THE Hauts-de-France have almost 3,000 buildings, 32,000 protected items of furniture and 45 Heritage Sites, recalls regional councilor Martine Miquel. The President Xavier Bertrand develop a policy aimed at preserving this precious heritage.”
The Saint-Pierre church needs this work, notes the regional advisor. “The stability of the apse-hall is threatened by structural disorders which affect the roofs, framework and facades of the nave,” she explains. And numerous cracks weaken the vault arches.”
By contributing to this project, the donor can benefit from a tax reduction of up to 75% of the donation. It is possible to make an online donation directly on the Heritage Foundation website or by sending a check.
