Saturday November 30, police officers from Beauvais (Oise) notice a Renault Scénic passing in front of them with the fuel flap open and whose number plate is illegible, it is so dirty. It doesn’t take much more to pique their curiosity. They therefore check the driver who can only give them an identity document. They discover that Thibaut Taillandier, 25 years oldhas no longer had a license for almost two years after his conviction, on March 14, 2022, for driving after using products classified as narcotics as a repeat offender. As he does not use the car he bought just after the end of his placement under an electronic bracelet, it is not insured and the urine analysis shows that he has used cannabis.
During police custody, he explained that although he was deprived of his license and without having started the process of getting it again, he bought this car purely out of opportunity. As he does not use it, contrary to what the court imagines, he decided to sell it. That’s why he went to put fuel there and when he returned, he met the police.
Not his first conviction
If this was his first conviction, he would have been tried on prior admission of guilt, but his criminal record includes four convictions for using and driving under drugs. “You’ve already had a bit of troubledeclares the president of the Beauvais court, fines, suspended probation, modified prison sentence, what do we have left? The prison closes.»
The young man who admits the facts is not proud of his legal career. He had decided to take charge and join his parents who went to Rennes. “I’m going to take charge of myself, retrain in public works», he promises. He does not consider himself dependent on narcotics: “I stop and I start againhe said, it’s to forget my problems. I consume when I’m alone at home, because I like.” He has already received treatment.which didn’t do much good» according to him. He has already managed to stop on his own, but when he is alone at home the temptation is there.
He rents his home and has worked as a forklift driver for a long time. The police described him as “ccalm and coherent, he is a calm character who seems fragile because of a painful life journey“. On which he does not want to dwell and which he justifies by “I have difficulty revealing myself», which the court respects.
The court gives him one last chance
The deputy prosecutor notes that he has been deviating from the straight and narrow path since he was 20 years old. “Is he sure of the origin of his torments and the solutions he wants to bring to them? If he persists on the path of narcotics his reintegration will be compromised as well as his freedom. His parents came from Rennes to support him. He is ready to leave Beauvais and they are ready to welcome him as part of a house arrest sentence, under electronic surveillance. Their presence is a guarantee of family support which can enable them to avoid incarceration.»
The court hesitated for a long time before giving him one last chance. “We’ll have to wake up», says the president, before delivering the deliberations: twelve months in prison including six months under probation for a period of three years, with a ban on appearing throughout the Oise and obligation to receive toxicological and psychological care, to work and to pay the sums due to the public treasury. He receives a fine of €500 for the lack of insurance which will be increased by 50% for the benefit of the insurance compensation fund. His license remains canceled and he will have to wait a month before applying for a new one. His Renault Scénic is confiscated. The Rennes sentence enforcement judge will receive him for the possible adjustment of the six months in prison.
