She dreamed of a career in cinema. Ultimately, it’s towards something just as artistic asEstelle Gourdin, 26 years oldturned around. At the end of September, she opened a flea market in the industrial zone of Méru (Oise).
Quickly, however, the young woman was destined for an artistic career. “I studied cinema in Paris from the age of 18 to 25.she says. I did different things: theater to be an actress, management, production… But it was starting to become complicated. I was losing the passion for cinema that I had always had. And as the years went by, I no longer had the shoulders to manage it.»
“I needed something artistic”
Estelle therefore leaves Paris – although she had promised herself not to leave – to return to her parents, in Val-d’Oise. “With my father, we love antiquingshe smiled. I’m more into clothes and small objects. When I go into a thrift store I can stay there for three hours.» The plan to open a flea market began to take shape with his father, who had always worked in the business. “I needed something artistic, and the objects tell a story, they have experience, charm.”
The little family then found a large room of 800 m2 in the industrial zone of Méru, at 8 rue du 11 mai 1967. A large room already full to bursting, largely with various and varied objects left by individuals. “During the holidays, we had to say stop due to lack of space», she shows in the middle of the room. At the same time, Estelle and her father also clear out houses. But no shelf rental like other flea markets offer. “We do everything from A to Z, from reception to installation, including labelingexplains the young woman. I try to harmonize everything inside the room.» As a result, you can find furniture like books, or even household appliances, clothes, board games, tools… For all tastes, at all prices.
Soon film sets with objects from the flea market?
And ultimately, Estelle would dream of creating film sets with objects from her flea market, to finally combine her two passions. “There are few in the area, those who do this are mainly located in the south of Paris“, she justifies. Estelle also plans to finalize the creation of her website, where she will present what she sells. With her dad, she also wants to participate in fairs to make herself known, and in the longer term present clothes in pop-up stores (ephemeral stores). “I would like to show that we can do modern things with old things.she smiled. We start from a flea market, but we can have lots of projects!»
In the meantime, the flea market Simone & Colette (named after her great-grandmothers) is open Wednesday to Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
