Thursday, December 12, a plaque inauguration took place at Place Carnot in Compiègne.
“It is a link between the inhabitants and their municipal police», Explain Eric de Valroger, security deputy, and Philippe Marini, mayor of Compiègne. The two elected officials unveiled a plaque indicating the device Vigilance CompiégnoiseThursday December 12, Place Carnot.
“This is coming together well,” said the mayor. Two vigilant neighbors came forward within a week. One to say that there was a squatted apartment. The other to signal the presence of a car, which comes regularly every evening at the same time, to serve as a trading base. This kind of business that we are not used to seeing in this place…”
The recently launched system brings together more than a hundred participants, distributed “harmoniously throughout the districts of Compiègne. “We have just set up a WhatsApp loop which allows us to discuss what is worth reporting between us,” says Eric de Valroger.
Looking for volunteers when the Petit Margny district
“This plate is there to notify delinquents that the city is under surveillance,” indicates deputy Eric de Valroger. Other plaques will be installed in the neighborhoods affected by this system.
“There is a district where we do not have enough potential respondents,” notes Philippe Marini. This is Petit Margny, the station district. The next neighborhood meeting in January will be an opportunity to talk about it.”
Vigilance Compiégnoise is coordinated by Lilian Mayhew, deputy director of city and urban security (ARC). Each Compiégnois can join the system for their neighborhood or, more precisely, their residential sector. By becoming a referent, he becomes “a privileged interlocutor for the municipal police”, comments Philippe Marini.
Inform the municipal police of worrying facts
The objective of transmitting this security-related information is to reduce acts of vandalism, burglaries, theft, and assaults. But also to encourage preventive actions and reassure residents.
By signing this charter, the referent undertakes to:
- note any fact that seems abnormal to me in my neighborhood
- relay prevention messages and advice from the coordinator
- listen to vulnerable people in your neighborhood (elderly people, isolated people, etc.),
- immediately inform the municipal police of any unusual or worrying facts. In case of emergency, you should call the municipal police and/or the national police (17)
Do not denounce
“It’s not denunciation,” reassures Philipp Marini. It’s just a matter of reporting to us what seems abnormal.”
This referent status does not give him all the rights. He undertakes to:
- not to denounce,
- respect the privacy of neighbors and refrain from disclosing personal information. Be transparent in my actions and take responsibility for my actions towards other members of the community.
- participate in meetings of the Vigilance Compiègnoise system.
