The “Trottoir pas cottoir” operation was officially presented in the presence of Chantal Modeste, municipal councilor responsible for animal welfare. This initiative aims to promote peaceful sharing of public space between residents, visitors and their four-legged companions.
The operation reminds dog owners of the importance of picking up their pets’ droppings. Messages were stencilled in several targeted streets such as Route d’Abbeville, Boulevard de Bapaume or Place Aristide Briand. The Green Brigade, supported by a rural guard, raises awareness and fines offenders, with fines of up to €135.
The city provides bag dispensers and 81 parks accessible to dogs, including 2 without leash. A 2,500 m² dog wellness area on rue Raphaël was recently inaugurated. At the same time, public transport welcomes small dogs in bags, as well as guide dogs, free of charge.
Several educational actions are deployed, such as dog training workshops for seniors or educational sessions in schools. A branch dedicated to animal abuse is also active, with a national number to report abuse.
In 2024, an “I have a single animal at home” card was introduced to guarantee animal care in the event of an emergency. A supportive concierge service also helps owners with practical services.
The Amiens Métropole Tourist Office supports visitors with welcome packs and a doggie bar. This initiative makes Amiens a welcoming city for animals and their owners, while ensuring respect for urban cleanliness.
