The town of Péronne is committed to supporting its residents and boosting its local economy through an original initiative: the distribution of a 50 euro checkbook. This gesture, implemented by the municipality, reflects a desire to respond to the challenges of inflation while promoting downtown businesses.
The checkbook, with a total value of 50 euros, consists of ten checks of 5 euros. It is offered to all households residing in Péronne, without resource conditions, and can be used exclusively in partner businesses in the heart of the city. To recognize this, simply spot the windows bearing a banner indicating their participation. Valid until January 31, 2025, this checkbook is designed to encourage local purchases, particularly during the end-of-year holidays.
To collect this precious sesame, residents must go to the town hall, in the Altena room, with an identity document and a recent energy or telephone bill. Distribution takes place during the week, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. and from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m., as well as on Saturday mornings. Once in possession of the checkbook, beneficiaries can pay for part of their purchases by combining these checks with their own means of payment. Small peculiarity: no change is given on these checks.
This operation, with a budget of around 200,000 euros, aroused the enthusiasm of Peron merchants, delighted with this initiative which promises to liven up the city center and strengthen the link between residents and their territory. The mayor, Gautier Maes, emphasizes that this project aims not only to improve the daily lives of households in the face of rising prices, but also to offer more peaceful celebrations for everyone.
This approach is part of a broader trend, other municipalities such as Moreuil having also introduced similar aid. However, the Peron system, by its scale and inclusiveness, stands out as a model of effective and united local action.
